Building Your List

By Rick Freeman

Even if you have a great website, if a person visits and leaves, it is likely he or she will not come back if you do not give them a reason to. When visiting ten pages or more a day, it is not hard to forget the names or addresses of one specific site that we might have visited. As any good webmaster realizes, if 1,000 visitors visit your site and never come back, they take all the potential revenue they could spend with them. Making a profit from those visitors is something you could have done. Still, if you want your customer to comeback, you need to convince them to join your mailing list!

Creating unique content is a helpful factor, but it is not the only solution. The only long-term solution to the problem of attracting repeat visitors is by getting visitors to subscribe to your mailing list. Though many visitors may not make a purchase on your website, they will still consider signing up for you mailing list if you have a simple opt-in. Email addresses and names are gathered on the opt-in form.

Visitors signed up on the mailing list provide you a way to follow their visit through with an email. These give you a way to pitch your offer to your subscribers. Increasing your potential customers is the goal, and that goal can be achieved through getting as many subscribers as you can.

If you truly want to increase your subscribers, you should try building a list. The web is full of popular article directories, one of which is eZine articles, where people write and submit articles on a variety of topics.

Writing good articles that capture the audience's attention is the key to a successful viral marketing plan. The articles provide a way to market your product, but more importantly, allow you to show your expertise in the area.

The most important part of the articles is the resource box because it is through that tool that you will build your mailing list. A good website owner uses this resource box as a place to market their skills and the URL of their site. The URL you include should send visitors to the place on your website where they can sign up for your mailing list in order to maximize the size of your mailing list.

As long as you write a decent article, the publishers of the online sites will approve it and republish your article - along with its helpful resource box. Viral marketing doesn't get much easier than that. The details that you include in your article are the key parts to making this an effective tool.
