Targeting your customer in a competitive market is one of the most difficult challenges any business or affiliate must conquer. In order to target customers in a large market internet marketers turn to niche marketing. Niche marketing is essentially targeting a less competitive portion or niche of a large competitive market.
You'll need some help at first so let's get started. In order to reach your customer you're going to have to understand your target market. To target customers in that market select a niche and gain in that market by targeting a specific customer. Try to narrow down what exactly your customer is looking for using popular descriptions, size, color, etc and be specific.
1. Try to stick with what you've already learned or an area that you're an expert in. This makes it much less difficult for you in general and you can put your personal touch on it. Not only will this be unique but it'll save you time and energy.
One of the most effective methods of niche marketing is answering a common question. If you're able to answer any questions current customers or future customers ask you'll be able to use this method to generate traffic. If you do a great job of helping your customers you won't be surprised when they decide to buy from you.
2. Be sure to test the competition. Do a Google search for the keyword phrase you want to target, and see who the #1-#5 people are. These are who you need to beat. If they are huge, national or global brand names, you may want to pick a different keyword phrase to target.
3. Make sure the way you outline your content will jive with your readers. You have to make sure that if your target visitor is a 12 year old to speak in terms they understand. If you use text that is too complex or not complex enough, your visitor can easily lose interest and decide to leave your site.
Make sure you do your research on your topic unless you're already an expert. If your content doesn't appeal to your readers it's going to hurt you tremendously. All it takes is a few poorly written paragraphs to lose most visitors. Take a look at what your competition is using and compare it to what you're already using or planning on using.
These are just the first steps in Niche marketing, but they are very important steps. If you start out in the wrong niche, it will make you have to work even harder to achieve your goals. A little work up front goes a long way!
